Virginia Tech and Pelosi’s Syrian Trek

The Left’s antipathy to violence, even in self-defense

Ronald Reagan Knew To Stand Up to the Bears of the World

Anyone who has ever been in any sort of physical confrontation, or understands even the rudimentary basics of how one transpires, had to be left wondering how one man, armed with but two guns, was afforded the opportunity to wreak the sort of murderous havoc that was inflicted by the sanctimonious yet self-loathing ass in Blacksburg, Virginia last week.

(Pelosi)'s was a unilateral attempt to implement the inherently flawed Baker-Hamilton Report (recurring theme: Screw our friends, appease our enemies) that Bush summarily and rightly dismissed as not just twaddle, but twaddle we have thoroughly wrung every last ounce out of over the last thirty years.

Many, such as former Senator, current actor and potential Presidential candidate Fred Thompson, have asked as much.  The answer lies in part in that to which these analyses have pointed; were one (or more) of these students or professors also armed, the incident would more than likely have ended much sooner and far less egregiously.

But wanton gun avoidance is but a part of the larger problem, which is the all-encompassing aversion to violence, in even the righteous act of self-defense.

Why did not one, or several, of these unarmed men (or women) bum-rush the idiot in question, wielding their desks, pens or fists in some sort of proactive effort to save themselves and/or their compatriots?

The Little Hand Points to the Time for Self-Protection

Because from every quarter, for all their short lives, these young men and women were told that the time for aggression is never, and that the art of “conflict avoidance” is of preeminent import.

Which is why the vast majority of those murdered and wounded were hiding under their desks, awaiting their turn to be the victims they were trained to be.  This was, to say the least, not a Flight 93-Todd Beamer and Company moment.

This warped mantra and mindset deems Talk to be paramount; that there is no situation that can not be resolved peaceably, if only all sides would just sit down and discuss things rationally.  (One wonders if the ninth student, upon seeing the murder of numbers 1-8, arose to say “Can we not begin a dialogue about this?”.)

And it exists in far more places than merely the Utopian Camp UnRealitys that are our college campuses.  There is, in fact, an entire political Party that embodies this breach and break from any semblance of realism regarding those who wish to see us dead.

Alternative Democrat Foriegn Reality

It is led by our current Speaker of the House, the metaphysically disengaged Nancy Pelosi.  Her recent voyage into oblivion, or (as she would prefer) her “fact finding mission” to Syria, placed her at the Talking Table opposite Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the co-sponsor (along with Iran) of the forces currently killing our troops and Iraqi civilians by the (tens of) thousands, as well as terrorist groups all over the Middle East and the globe.

President George W. Bush long ago rightly recognized the utter pointlessness of Talk with the likes of these.  And whether or not one agrees with this decision he is, according to our Constitution (and the Logan Act), the only American empowered to make that call.  We tried Talk with these thugs for decades before, to absolutely no discernable avail, and this President decided to cease our rigorous adherence to Mark Twain’s definition of insanity.

But to paraphrase Joseph Sobran, the Constitution poses no serious threat to how Democrats view and implement our form of government.  And as we saw yet again with the Iranian kidnapping of fifteen British sailors and marines, acts of war ain’t what they used to be.

So off Pelosi went to engage in, as her Fellow Traveler, Representative Tom Lantos said, "alternative Democrat foreign policy."  So much for politics stopping at the water’s edge.

She Said What?

Not only did she fumble whatever message she attempted to deliver to Assad from Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert (a favor the former never asked of her; probably, she simply invented the Prime Minister’s request), she is fundamentally undermining our attempt to isolate Syria from the civilized portions of the planet.

Hers was a unilateral attempt to implement the inherently flawed Baker-Hamilton Report (recurring theme: Screw our friends, appease our enemies) that Bush summarily and rightly dismissed as not just twaddle, but twaddle we have thoroughly wrung every last ounce out of over the last thirty years.  Besides which, it is not her gig, or her call.

But again, Pelosi and her ideological ilk still think Talk is the salve to soothe the globe’s savage beasts.  The beasts, as always, know better, and find this latest gaggle of Useful Idiots to be at least as humorous and utilitarian as the last.
