The Baskin-Robbins Man of the Moment

Illinois Democrat Senator Barrack Hussein Obama is, of course, the Media Darling for President this next go ‘round, at least du jour and for the moment.

He is a man of inordinately limited experience, but that by no means serves to dampen the enthusiasm and in fact could not matter less to the Jurassic Press charged with providing the information We the People are to use in doing the choosing.

He is, however, a man of much ballyhooed heritage, being the progeny of a black Kenyan father and an Irish mother. Lacking a substantive political past, it appears the Media has chosen to instead focus on his biological one.

(T)he purpose of religion is to transcend, and gird us against, the petty difficulties and differences of this world and unite us all in a devotion to something higher than ourselves.

Obama is undoubtedly more than happy for the distraction. Though he repeatedly proffers at the inception of his stump speeches, in an attempt at immodest diffusion, “There is a certain audacity” to his candidacy given his but two year tenure at the Washington trough, anything that serves to divert us from his extraordinarily limited resume, distinguished only by its undistinguished Liberalism, is just fine by him.

Obama, of course, pretends to be exhausted by the subject, rolling his eyes and sighing as if to say, in Rodney King fashion, “Can we not all just get past this?”. But being a rank and file Leftist, Obama actually loves and can not help wading into the racial waters whenever afforded the opportunity, as he was again by Steve Kroft on February 11 th’s 60 Minutes.

Come On Back In, the Water Is Still Great

To wit:

Obama: I’m not sure I decided it. Uh, I think, uh, you know, if you - if you look African-American in this society, you’re treated as an African-American, uh, and, uh, when you’re a child in particular, uh, that is how you begin to identify yourself.

So Obama is not the Decider, even on something as individual and personal, not to mention realistically irrelevant, as his melanin-based classification. Of course for Liberals, Race trumps all things save Liberalism itself (See: Thomas, Clarence or Rice, Condoleezza, as but two examples of which of these is the better hand).

Once this decision was made for him, however, Obama had no problem settling right in to the racial identity mindset that in no small part led him to the Democrat Party once his fancy late in life lightly turned to politics.

Trinity Un-United

It also must have led him to choose the church he attends when back in his home state. The Trinity United Church of Christ of Chicago (Obama mentioned it by name last Sunday during his speech in Selma, Alabama) is certainly not shy about expressing its immense pride in something over which they had no control; that being its assemblage's skin color. It revels in it, and from all appearances it is race, rather than God and His worship, for and about which this congregation has been convened.

And it exhibits that for some Liberals, even God is of secondary import to ideology, racial or otherwise.

Does this mean Obama? Does he “espouse and embrace the Black Value System”? Should we even be considering for the Presidency someone who does?

Where Are the Calls For the Wall of Separation?

Trinity United certainly seems enamored with its prodigal political son. Obama’s January speaking engagement before the congregation was in advance much trumpeted on the church’s website, and they were then and are still prominently hawking his latest book, The Audacity of Hope, in their online Akiba Bookstore.

Not, We Believe, What He Had In Mind

Code word for “reparations”, per chance?

Who says multiculturalism is divisive?

(7) A congregation committed to the HISTORICAL EDUCATION OF AFRICAN PEOPLE IN DIASPORA.

(8) A congregation committed to LIBERATION.

Better This?

“Liberation” from what, exactly? Could this mean ridding oneself of the yoke of American freedom and prosperity for a return to the Mother Continent, for the most part rife with poverty and ruled by thugs?

(10) A congregation working towards ECONOMIC PARITY.

This is a comprehensive website for a wide-ranging Black agenda church, and there is very much more to be mined there from. The many other electronic offerings are all variations on this theme.

Rugged Individualism

The selection of one’s place of worship is a very personal, and sometimes painstaking, decision, and it is by no means my intention, or anyone’s proper place, to question the nature of someone’s faith.

But it is certainly fair to say that the purpose of religion is to transcend, and gird us against, the petty difficulties and differences of this world and unite us all in a devotion to something higher than ourselves. Faith is not to be used to ensconce this earthly divisiveness in pseudo-sacrosanct dictum, and twisted into just another wedge item to further one’s secular political or racial causes.

This is exactly on what the likes of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have been dining for decades. Trinity United, with lesser fanfare but no less success, has done the very same thing. And Obama proudly proclaims himself a member of this political congregation guised as hallowed gathering.

Irreconcilable Differences

A commitment to Unashamed Blackness, remain true to (his) native land (that would be Africa, as per Trinity United parlance) and the embrace of the Black Value System certainly seems to stand in diametric opposition to Obama’s potential upcoming oath to faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and his doing his very best to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Our prohibition on the Presidency for California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has chosen fidelity to the United States but whose loyalties are called into question merely by the matter of his place of birth, could reasonably be extended to Obama, who had the good fortune to be born in America, but who chooses to pledge allegiance elsewhere as an article of faith.
